Weekly update 10/13:

We hope you are having a nice and peaceful weekend! Please keep reading for some important news.

First, a message from our amazing Principal, Kristi Williford:

“Thank you to everyone who came to the ribbon cutting of our outdoor garden area. I am excited to have this area for our teachers to be able to empower our students to connect their learning, collaborate together with the outdoors and create opportunities for inquiry based learning. We hope to continue to add to this outdoor learning area throughout the coming year(s) with additional learning opportunities.

We are still in need of funds to finish the outdoor classroom space with a shade structure. If you know of a business that would like to support school programs, please let me know or share with them about this opportunity! We need approximately $3,000 more to be able to purchase this structure and get it installed.

This Friday is our fall festival sponsored by the PTO. I look forward to seeing all of our wonderful families during this fun filled evening!”

We want to congratulate the Western Union Teacher of the Year 2019-2020, Mr. Hughes! He is an amazing 5th grade teacher and we cannot be more proud to have him at our school. ** Gym doors will open at 6:00pm. Due to After School Program, we cannot admit families before this time. If you arrive prior to 6pm, we ask that you wait in your cars **

Weekly update 10/6:

Good Evening Western Union Families!

We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyed this beautiful fall weekend.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone that contributed to our Soar to Success straight donation fundraiser; we were able to SURPASS our goal of $6,000 and raised — drum rolls, please — $8,463.42 We are absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude at the generosity of our amazing families and can’t wait to spend this money on our school. Prizes will be distributed shortly and the grand prize drawing will be filmed and posted on social media soon. Stay tuned! Once again, THANK YOU!

A message from our Principal Kristi Williford:

“The first Monday of every October is World Day of Bullying Prevention™!

On this day students, schools, and communities all over the world go BLUE together against bullying. It also kicks off National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month every October. Wear Blue on Monday!

Thursday, October 10 at 4:00pm we will have our ribbon cutting for our outdoor garden area. Please come join us along with community members, Dr. Houlihan, and Union County Education Foundation members as we celebrate this wonderful learning opportunity that we have due to the grant received from the Education Foundation.

This outdoor learning garden will be a work in progress for many years as we want to continue to add to this area and around the school as we engage our students in experiential learning. We are still in need of additional funds to complete the shade structure for the “classroom area” so students can have shade while they are sitting during instruction. Please share this link on your social media accounts, with any business partners that you might have and with family and friends. Our goal it to raise about $3000 more dollars to be able to finish this part of the project. https://give.livingtree.com/c/outdoor-learning-classroom_1

Many teachers will be hosting parent and teacher conferences during the month of October. Through these conferences it is a great opportunity for you to talk with the teacher to find out what your child has been learning, and areas they need to improve upon. I hope you take advantage of meeting with your child’s teacher!

This Thursday students will be bringing home a packet of information from Schoolstore.com. This is the same program that we used last year that allows you to sponsor your child’s classroom with a donation. More importantly SchoolStore.com is an online shopping mall where over 400 nationally-known online merchants have agreed to give a percentage of sales to K-12 schools. Companies like Walmart.com, Target, DisneyStore.com, and Best Buy participate. SchoolStore is a great way to support your school when you shop at your favorite online merchants. With the Holidays around the corner or anytime of the year, when you are shopping online, consider these merchants and put in our school code so we can earn a percentage back! Be on the lookout for this information coming Thursday!”

Fall Festival – Family Fun Fall Festival is on Friday October 18 at 6:00pm at the Gym. We can’t wait to see you at this great free family event with games, prizes and concessions. Be on the lookout for a SignUp Genius as we are in need of many awesome volunteers during the event- please consider giving us a hand; we promise you a very fun and special night. Also we need extra people to plan games and make some fall decorations. Please contact [email protected]
