We are incredibly touched by the outpouring of support that all Western Union families, teachers and staff gave the PTO during our 2020 Boosterthon. We are beyond excited to announce that once again we have SURPASSED our goal! We have collected an astonishing amount of…. Drum rolls please….$31,277.39!! WOW!! Parents, there are no words to express how thankful we are for your support. This is clear proof that when a community comes together to reach any goal, the results are phenomenal! We cannot wait to purchase our hydration stations, friendship benches and much more. Stay tuned, we’ll be posting pictures soon!

I want to take a moment to recognize all these amazing PTO ladies that put their personal lives on hold for months to make this successful event a reality. Our very own PTO Treasurer, Jill Martin, took the lead for the second year in a row and worked closely with: Sabrina OlshanskyLauren Jenkins and Kristie Metz. It has been a real pleasure working with these fabulous ladies who selflessly took time of their busy lives to help our wonderful school. Ladies, thank you very much!

Also, many thanks to moms and dads that helped out to decorate our classroom doors and hallways. It was amazing to see all this wonderful creativity coming to our school. A very special thanks to Rebecca Starnes. She is a talented artist and a WUES mom who graciously provided many wild west theme props to decorate our kindergarten hallway and cafeteria. If you haven’t seen it, stop by the school and check it out for yourself before it’s gone.

Parents, once again THANK YOU for your support. We are honored to have all of you in our school, as you make our volunteer job easier.

I hope everyone had a great, unexpected long weekend! We are hoping that all sickness in our beloved students has gone away with the wind and that everyone stayed safe after all that wild weather. We have multiple events coming up in the following weeks – keep reading for more details.

We have an important message from our Principal Kristi Williford:

“I want to thank all parents for their patience and understanding of not being able to release students while we are in a tornado warning. Our teachers and staff ensured all students were safe. Many students were scared and unsure of what all was happening because this was their first time away from their parents in this situation. I am so proud of how the entire staff stepped in to comfort and reassure the students they were safe. If you have a moment, reach out to your child’s teacher and tell them thank you!

Please help me congratulate Mr. Hughes. He is a UCPS top 10 teacher of the year candidate. Way to go Mr. Hughes! For those of you that don’t know, this is our 4th year in a row having a UCPS top 10 candidate with 2 of them being the UCPS teacher of the year. WUES is filled with amazing teachers!

Reminder for afternoon car rider line – At 2 PM the cars move forward filling up the first two lines and then the cars alternate every other one till the next two rows are filled. This is just a way to be fair about filling up the first 4 lanes until the car rider line begins. Please be mindful of this if you are new to the carrider line. It is important to be respectful, as everyone is there to get their child. Thank you for your help in this!”

Yes, WUES has the BEST teachers, but also the BEST staff! Last week we celebrated “Counselor’s Week” and we want to take a moment to congratulate Mrs. Witney Herwing, our wonderful counselor. Thank you, Mrs. Herwing, for all your encouraging and kind words, you definitely are a very important key at the school.

We are also very excited to share that WUES was able to collect $268 during the Souper Bowl of Caring coin drive on January 31. Thank you to all the families that supported this program. All donations will benefit the Union County Homeless Shelter.

Checkers Game Spirit Night – We are getting closer to one of our favorites spirit nights! The Charlotte Checkers will battle the Utica Comets on Saturday, March 7th, at 6pm at the Bojangles’ Coliseum. Our Students have been invited to sing “God Bless America” before the game starts. If you are interested in having your student be a part of this, please sign the form that was sent in the last Wednesday folder and send it back to school as soon as possible. Our awesome music teacher, Mrs. Reese, graciously agreed to practice with the students that are singing. This cool experience is for students attending the game. If you haven’t purchased your tickets, you can go ahead and click HERE. Remember that for every ticket, the Checkers will donate $5 back to WUES, plus everyone with a paid ticket gets a FREE Checkers’ hat! You can’t beat that!

Boosterthon – Giddy up horsey, the Boosterthon is on the way!! Yes, we are only 9 days away from kicking off our biggest fundraiser of the year! Be on the lookout, Western Union will become the Wild West – Yee-Haw!. Here’s a sneak peek:
